Accreditation Statement and Credit Designation  

European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (UEMS/EACCME) 

The 19th Congress of the International Union of Microbiological Societies, Lisbon, Portugal 04/11/2026 – 06/11/2026 is accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) to provide the following CME activity for medical specialists. The EACCME is an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS): www.uems.eu

The 19th Congress of the International Union of Microbiological Societies, Lisbon, Portugal 04/11/2026 – 06/11/2026 is designated for a maximum of, or up to, 17.5 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.  

American Medical Association (AMA) 

Through an agreement between the European Union of Medical Specialists and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Information on the process to convert EACCME credit to AMA credit can be found at https://edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/applications  

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada  

Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognized by the UEMS-EACCME for ECMEC credits are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Educational Objectives

After participating in this educational event, learners should be able to:

  • Address individual needs in compliance with their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) plan
  • Analyse current advances in bacteriology, virology and medical mycology, including emerging pathogens, virulence mechanisms and host-pathogen interactions.
  • Evaluate strategies for the prevention, diagnosis and management of infectious diseases, including vaccines, antivirals, antimicrobial therapies and monoclonal antibodies.
  • Assess the epidemiological and public health implications of antimicrobial resistance, emerging infections and pandemic preparedness.
  • Compare the roles of microbial communities, microbiomes and mycobiomes in human health, disease and host-microbe interactions.
  • Apply principles from microbial genomics, gene expression, CRISPR and molecular biology to the investigation of microbial function, evolution and diversity.
  • Critically appraise the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data in clinical microbiology, antimicrobial resistance prediction, microscopy and microbial research.
  • Evaluate microbiological approaches to One Health, food safety, biotechnology, environmental sustainability, aquatic ecosystems and climate change.
  • Integrate evidence from different microbiological disciplines to support clinical decision-making, research development and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Target Audience   

The principal intended recipients are fully qualified medical specialists, particularly consultants and senior physicians in clinical microbiology, infectious diseases, virology, medical mycology, bacteriology, laboratory medicine and public health. The programme is also relevant to medical specialists involved in antimicrobial resistance, infection prevention, vaccination, pandemic preparedness and the diagnosis and management of bacterial, viral and fungal diseases.  The intended level is specialist and advanced, with content designed for established clinicians, laboratory specialists and physician-scientists seeking to update and expand their knowledge of emerging microbiological research, clinical applications and new technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning in clinical microbiology. 

To Receive Your CME/CPD Certificate   

The CME/CPD certificate will be available after completing the online evaluation and credit–claiming procedure. The process takes about 5 minutes. We thank you for your feedback as it is an important part of CME/CPD accreditation and helps improve future educational offerings.

Before 06 December 2026:

  1. Access the online system via the following link
  2. Complete the anonymous online evaluation
  3. Enter your email address (conference registration email) and Registration ID during the credit-claiming process
  4. Complete the credit claim form and submit

 

  • The CME/CPD certificate will be available for download and retained for your records.
  • Please note that web browsers Mozilla Firefox 2.X or higher, or Google Chrome are recommended. Mobile devices are not supported. 

Kindly note that the IUMS 2026 online evaluation will be active on the last day of the meeting. You will then be able to access it and claim your CME/CPD certificate.

Disclosure and Resolution of Personal Conflicts of Interest  

In accordance with CME/CPD accreditation criteria and standards for commercial support to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor, those in control of the educational content must disclose potential or actual conflicts of interest. Disclosure information is evaluated and conflicts of interest are resolved. Disclosure is made to participants prior to the activity. Participants will be asked on the evaluation to assess the objectivity and independence of the event.  

  • Disclosure information will be available here at least one week prior to the event.
